APTA Maryland and PTA Milestones

September 1, 2019

APTA Maryland Turns 80

This significant milestone celebrates 80 years of helping Marylanders improve the way they move. With a proud history that dates back to 1962, APTA Maryland is guided by the Vision Statement for the Physical Therapy Profession, and our committment to the promotion, delivery, enhancement, and preservation of physical therapy by addressing the needs and interests of its members in areas of practice, reimbursement, education, and research.

Join us November 9th at our Annual Conference and help us celebrate this milestone.

Want to be on our special birthday task force? We would love for you to help us plan the big event!

Celebrating 50 Years of the PTA

2019 also marks the 50th anniversary of the first physical therapist assistant (PTA) graduates.

Though a half-century may seem like a long time, the rise of the PTA from something that seemed like a good idea to a recognized, well-established, and in-demand profession integral to health care represents a remarkably short ascendance. Today, it's hard to imagine the delivery of physical therapy without PTAs on the team.

APTA has taken a look back at how the PTA profession came into being, and what's happened since.

APTA of Maryland is putting together events to celebrate the PTA's impact on the profession. The event will take place at our Annual Conference on November 9th. More information coming soon.
