Continuing Education Program: An Update on the APTA Guide to Physical Therapy Practice Revisions
Date: June 1, 2010
Time: 6:30-8:30 pm

Course Description: This is a one-hour course and will provide a brief introduction and overview of the International Classification of Functioning, Disability, and Health (ICF).
Objectives:
• Describe the philosophical concepts of the ICF
• Describe the ICF language, components, constructs, and qualifiers
• Identify the terminology changes in current APTA policies, procedures, guidelines, and within the Guide to Physical Therapist Practice
Speaker Bio: Anita Bemis-Dougherty, PT, DPT, MAS received a Bachelor of Science degree in Physical Therapy at The University of Maryland, Baltimore, MD, Masters degree in Administration from the Johns Hopkins University, Baltimore, Maryland, and Doctorate in Physical Therapy from Widener University in Pennsylvania.
Anita has worked in tertiary, academic medical institutions which included a variety of clinical settings including outpatient, acute care, and acute inpatient rehabilitation. Previously, she was the Physical Therapy Manager at the Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, Maryland. She joined the staff of the American Physical Therapy Association (APTA) in June, 2006 and is currently an Associate Director in the Department of Practice. She has been involved in the APTA initiatives related to physical therapy documentation, Peer Review, fall risk reduction and prevention, acute care initiatives, revisions to the guide to Physical Therapist Practice, and education of members in the use of the International Classification of Functioning, Disability, and Health (ICF).
Continuing Education Credit: This course meets the criteria of the Maryland Board of Physical Therapy Examiners for one (0.1) CEUs. A certificate of attendance will be provided. The program is FREE for members and $10 for non-members.
