2008-06-04: Nominations Sought For...

The 2008 Henry O. and Florence P. Kendall Award
The Kendall Award was established as a way for the APTA of Maryland to honor its members for outstanding contributions to the field of physical therapy.

This award is presented at the Fall Meeting. Nominees should be:

  • Physical therapists or physical therapist assistants who have demonstrated outstanding service to the profession of physical therapy in the area(s) of patient care, supervision, administration, education, and/or research.
  • Physical therapists or physical therapist assistants who have participated and been a dominant force in activities that have significantly affected chapter or professional growth and development.

The Chapter's 2008 Distinguished Service Award
The Distinguished Service Award is presented to one or more individuals who have shown a strong commitment to and/or have had a dramatic effect on the physical therapy profession, although recipients do not have to be PTs or PTAs. The award is presented by the president of APTA of Maryland, Inc., at the Annual Fall Meeting. The award need not be given annually. The pool of candidates is drawn from letters of nomination submitted to the Distinguished Service Award Committee.

If you know someone who you think should be considered for this award, please provide the following information for the nominee: name, address, type of APTA membership (PT/PTA) if any, phone number (day/evening) and in narrative form on a separate page an explanation of why you think this person should receive the 2008 Distinguished Service Award. PT Positions on the Board of Examiners
Nominations are being sought for two physical therapist positions on the Maryland Board of Physical Therapy Examiners that will become vacant at the end of May 2009. To fill these positions, the APTA of Maryland, Inc., is asked to provide the names of at least three nominees for each position to the Governor’s Office of Appointments and Executive Nominations.

There is a 5-year clinical experience requirement for the positions. Membership in APTA is not required. If you are interested in applying or nominating a colleague, please submit a CV and a letter of interest to the chapter by September 19, 2008. Nominees are encouraged to attend the Chapter’s 2008 Fall Meeting to address the members. The names to be submitted will be determined by a vote of the membership at that meeting.

APTA of Maryland Positions
The Nominating Committee is seeking the names of members interested in serving in the following positions in order to prepare a slate of candidates for the elections that will take place at the 2008 Fall Meeting:

President-Elect
Treasurer
Director for Education
Director for Reimbursement
Nominating Committee (2 positions)

If you are interested, or know of someone who may be interested in one of these positions, please contact the Chapter Office. We encourage you to submit nominations as soon as possible. The Nominating Committee will follow up with interested individuals.


2008-05-12: Presentations Now Available

Sumesh Thomas presented a short course entitled “Physical Therapy in Preventative Healthcare - Preventing Ankle Sprains” at the Central District meeting on April 23, 2008 at St. Agnes Hospital. In addition, Sheila Schaffer presented a course at our Spring Meeting, May 1, 2008 at St. Agnes Hospital on "Defensible Documentation for Patient and Client Management.
